McAfee one of the world’s leader in antivirus, firewall and internet security software has release a results that indicates domains that tends to be malware-prone on the Web, and Hong Kong .hk domain tops the list. According to McAfee 19.2 percent of all websites ending with .hk pose a security threat to Web users. Other domains who are also on the top list are China (.cn), Philippines (.ph), Romania (.ro) and Russia (.ru). In the lighter side, the safest domains are Finland (.fl), Japan (.jp), Norway (.no), Slovenia (.si) and Columbia (.co).
McAfee research team used SiteAdvisor tool that crawls the Web and test everything from downloadable software, screensavers and some files. The said tool then monitors what may happen on the test computer after it engage with those site. Each site is rated based on behavior with buttons on the browser colored green, yellow, or red for computers that have the tool downloaded.
This doesn’t mean that .hk domain are all based in Hong Kong or the more malware distributions came on that place. Lots of sites to be particular with those malicious software sites would rather choose the most affordable domain registrar with least rules and regulations.
Japan and Australia are said to be safer because they require some proof that a certain company is incorporated and strict rules before using their top-level domains. The downloading of spyware, adware, viruses and other malicious software from surfing the Web increases by 41.5 percent over 2007.
For online porn sites Keats said, ” those sites aren’t considered any more risky than other types of sites on the Web in general, despite the common belief that they are.”

I’m sad that .ph is on the list. We should also make the rules for getting a .ph TLD strict.
